INTRODUCTION TO KESZTHELY


is a small baroque town. It lies between the mountains of Keszthely and Lake Balaton. Keszthely is also called a school town. Tourists can find many types of accommodation from camping via private rooms to pensions and hotels. It is also advisable to visit the town in autumn and spring as it offers many varieties of different programs.

HOW TO GET THERE


Keszthely is easily accessed by rail, road and air. Trains run twice daily from Budapest ´s Keleti station. The journey of around 175 km takes about 2hrs 30 minutes. A change of train is also required at Fonyod to pick up the local line to Keszthely and Tapolca.

You can get there by car from Budapest using M7 / E71. On motorway M7 take the Balatonszentgyörgy exit and drive 17 km in direction of Keszthely (Route 71). 3 km after Balatonszentgyörgy across the Zala Bridge. Just after crossing the bridge through the railway crossing, then turn to the right to direction Keszthely again. Approx. 2 km of drive, turn to the right in the direction of Keszthely Centre.

The nearest airport is at Sarmellek approximately 10 km south of the city and is served by regional airlines. From the airport Keszthely is easily accessed via route 75.

WHAT TO SEE


Festetics Castle

is the third largest castle in the country. There is the Helikon Castle Museum. There are many unique and rare plants and trees in the castle garden.


The Balaton Museum

you can see here: history of Balaton, flora and fauna of the lake, stone collection from the Roman Times and the Middle Ages.
